Did you know that the Olympics were once abolished? Since the Olympics were in essence a religious affair, the Greeks proclaimed the hieromenia which is a sacred truce for the duration of the games. It was important that no competitor must be found guilty of unfair practice which they are asked to pay a fine that will be used to build a statue of Zeus at the stadium entrance. The games lost its reputation when Nero was allowed to win in the chariot race in AD 66, at during the 393 AD, emperor Theodosius made a decree to abolish it.
